Day 4/7. SANTA CRUZ, CORDILLERA BLANCA: We make an early start from Huaraz down the Callejon de Huaylas by bus. The walk combines lots of glaciated scenery with high water meadows and Andean villages.

The ascent is mercifully gradual until the last 500 metres arriving at a pass of 4750 metres. Due to the suitability of the terrain we use pack mules on this trek. It is also possible to take horses, as an option. Arriving at Cashapampa the starting point for the popular Santa Cruz Trek. There are many incredible views of the glacial mountains, Alpamayo (5,947m), considered to be the most beautiful glaciated peak in the world and Huascaran (6,768m), the highest mountain in Peru. We then climb through three ecological zones; Quechua, Yunga and Puna with beautiful lakes. Our highest point on the trek is Punta Union Pass (4,750m). The trip ends at Vaqueria where we return back to Huaraz.

Travellers Comments

We put together a book of pictures of our trip recently, had dinner here in Dallas at a new restaurant called Machupicchu with Rudy and Charles. They enjoyed reliving their trip as much as we enjoyed sharing our experience with them.

Would we do it again? Maybe. Would we recommend Inca Explorers? Absolutely!

thanks again for the wonderful adventure.

Richard and Jonathan
